In looking to the stars, we seek to know where we came from. What our place in the Universe is. We want to know if there is other life out there (are we alone?). And what if our own biosphere collapses; are there other life-sustaining planets we could reach? What defines an ‘Earth-like’ planet apparently includes its mass, radius, what kind of star it orbits, the surface temperature, plate tectonics, a magnetic field, its chemical composition, liquid water: these seem important conditions for the presence of life. And that leads back to the personal dimension – what makes us distinctly human. The sound of a voice, eye contact, the shape of a hand – we reach out and connect. The premiere performance was given by Quercus Trio on 5 August 2026 at Hanson Dyer Hall.
