program note
This short work for solo piano was commissioned by Vanessa Sharman for an album of new music taking the idea of a lullaby as a starting or departure point. The title of this work – Entering the Universe of Dreams – suggests a doorway into the subconscious, fantasy, or parallel universe. It attempts to capture the ebb and flow between drifting off to sleep and the intensity of a vivid dream. The premiere performance was given by Vanessa Sharman at Tempo Rubato, Melbourne on 8 February 2025.
